2010 Oscar Predictions

To be perfectly honest, I don’t ever see the entire list of films nominated in the “important” categories for the Oscars, but I think I’ve got a pretty good eye when it comes to who or what wins an Oscar. In fact, for the past four years I’ve been pretty dead-on. Hell, I predicted Crash to win when no one thought it had a chance in hell.

The thing about the voters for the Academy Awards is that they tend to fall into the hype, at times even overlooking performances that should win. Sure, they’re SUPPOSED to be fair and private in their decision, but they’re exposed to media opinions as well as the opinions of those around them (when you’re a voter, it’s usually not a secret to those around you). Hell, they even share the movies with their friends and loved ones (at times just acquaintances), when they’re not supposed to. I should know; I had in my temporary possession a VHS that the Academy sent out many years ago – if the mentioning of a VHS is any indication of how far back this was. I saw it, didn’t like it. Didn’t bother to notice if it won or not. Hell, I was but a wee kid at the time, I didn’t care.

So, it’s not so much which is always “best,” it’s usually what’s popular within a voter’s circle. With that, I give you my unbiased opinion on who I think will win this year. Does it mean they will win? Absolutely not. But it would be so awesome if I got them all right, wouldn’t it?

I’ll tell you now, if you see two winners in one category it’s because I really can’t determine which of the two will win. And the Best Picture category is incredibly hard to determine this year since they decided to have ten nominees this year!
